Preparation method

The preparation of alcoholic beverages is an art that Hooghoudt’s master distillers have at their fingertips. Technical tours-de-force are indispensable to the process of extracting alcohol from fine grain and subsequently converting it into delicious beverages. In-depth knowledge of elementary physical and chemical principles likewise forms part of the essential stock-in-trade for distilling our characteristic Jonge Dubbele Graanjenever, Beerenburg, Vodka or Vieux from water and ethanol. Despite this, however, Hooghoudt’s master craftsmanship is not entirely due to these preconditions. The refinement of our products ultimately lies in our desire to excel and the fact that we’re only satisfied with the very best. And that’s why Hooghoudt uses the finest grain, the clearest water, the purest form of distilling, and the very best natural extracts. The authentic recipes handed down from father to son in the family business ultimately determine the end result. This secret is jealously guarded. As far as Hooghoudt is concerned, the deciding factor is our precision in our craft and our dedication to our trade. And you can taste this in the end result. Hooghoudt uses pure alcohol to make its famous Jonge Dubbele Graanjenever. The word ‘dubbel’ (double) refers to the fact that the juniper berry extract is distilled twice, which gives it a deliciously pure and smooth flavour. The addition of specific components, such as our own recipe for the herb mixture, gives our Jonge Dubbele Graanjenever lasting value. Holland gin is still the most popular spirit by far in the Netherlands.
